VIERA, Fla.—Southern Connecticut came close to getting its  third no-hitter of the season as the Owls topped Post, 8-0, at the Spring Space Coast Games on Sunday.

Olivia Young (Sterling/Mount St. Charles Academy) went four innings and Kate Nickerson went one as the duo each gave up a hit in the victory.

Young also paced the Owls’ offense effort, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk.

All told, SCSU pounded out 10 hits in just four innings.

Izzy Ingersoll (Norwalk/Notre Dame-Fairfield) was 2-for-4 with a run scored, a triple and two RBIs; Rachel Miller (Waterford) plated three by going 2-for-2 with a double and a home run; and Nicole Spinelli (Redding/Joel Barlow) and Sophia Angiolini (Watertown) both had RBIs.

Earlier in the day, the Owls had topped Minnesota-Crookston, 3-1.

The Owls are now 8-2 on the season and will play two games on Monday against the University of Texas-Dallas. The games are at 10 a.m., and 2:30 p.m.

Post, which slipped to 0-10, got hits from Kately Lipsky (Planstville/Southington) and Nyla Sapia. The Eagles play Eckerd College (2:30 p.m.) and UT-Dallas (7:30 p.m.) on Tuesday.
