Bristol Eastern’s 5-2 win over E.O. Smith was the lone “upset” in the CCC quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Top-seeded Southington edged No. 8 Tolland, 2-1; No. 2 Enfield rolled to a 13-1 win over Avon; and No. 3 Berlin eked out a 1-0 win over No. 6 Conard to advance.
All winners move on to today’s semifinals, played at the higher seed’s field.
Southington will host Bristol Eastern while Enfield will entertain Berlin.
Here’s a brief look at each of the CCC Quarterfinals:
SOUTHINGTON 2, TOLLAND 1
The Blue Knights needed two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to escape with a win against Tolland.
Aubrey Perugini had an RBI double and Alexa Poutouves grounded into a run-scoring error with one out, to give the Blue Knights the lead.
Perugini had two of Southington’s four hits in the game. Shelby Jordan and Ashlyn Kenefick had the others.
Jordan was the winning pitcher, scattering six hits while striking out 13 and walking three.
For Tolland, which outhit Southington 6-4, Elise McCaffrey had two hits. Jordyn Scott (1 run), Mackenzie Snow, Morgan Jolly and Madalyn Lauer all had singles.
McCaffrey was the hard-luck loser, pitching six innings and giving up just one earned run. She struck out seven and walked two.
No. 2 Enfield 13, No. 7 Avon 1
Enfield pitcher Payten Stebbins fired a five-inning one-hitter, giving up just a run while striking out eight and walking a batter to lead the Eagles to the win.
Stebbins aided her own cause at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBIs, as well. One of her hits was a triple.
Hailey Anderson plated three batters as she went 2-for-4 with a triple and scored twice, and Cassidy Wallner had two hits, a triple and three RBIs. Aaliyah Tousignant also got into the three-bag action with a triple of her own. She scored twice. Emily Lyver scored three times.
For Avon, Kayla Jette had a solo home run to account for her team’s lone hit and lone run.
No. 3 Berlin 1, No. 6 Conard 0
The host Red Coats scored the game’s lone run in the bottom of the fifth to advance.
Lexi Walters led off the inning with a single. Mia Beatty came in to pinch run and she moved to second when Callie Jehning singled to left with one out.
Jill Farrand then singled to center field, scoring Beatty and giving Berlin the 1-0 lead that would stand up through seven innings.
Jehning was the winning pitcher for Berlin, scattering six hits while striking out five. She did not walk a batter.
Farrand, from the ninth spot in the lineup, had two hits in addition to her RBI. Payton Nadeau doubled while Maddie Mota also had a hit.
For Conard, Elise Talbott was the hard-luck loser, going six innings and giving up just the one run. She fanned five and didn’t walk a batter, as well.
Tea Higgins and Nina Ostafin both had two hits for the Red Wolves. Talbott and Charlotte Keany also had singles.
No. 5 Bristol Eastern 5, No. 4 EO Smith 2
Hailey Beebe earned the complete-game win, giving up just two earned runs on eight hits for the Lancers.
Emily Valentine was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, a run scored, and she stole a base. Maria Albert also had two hits while Beebe and Corinne Sutula both had hits. Leah Webber scored twice.
Bristol Eastern has won six of seven.
