MERIDEN—The Southington Blue Knights put up a crooked number in the bottom of the fifth and held to win its fifth straight Central Connecticut Conference championship, topping Berlin by a 5-3 score on Thursday.

Soutington had 11 hits with Shelby Jordan (1 run), Olivia Gombotz, Reagan Salvatore (1 run), Alexa Poutouves (2 runs, 2 RBIs) and Reece Archer (1 RBI) posting two hits each. Archer had a double and Poutouves tripled.

The Blue Knights trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the fifth when they retook the lead.

Jordan and Gobbotz both singled to open the inning. With one out, Salvatore singled to load the bases.

Poutouves then tripled, scoring a pair of runs as the second out was also recorded. Archer then doubled, plating Poutouves.

Jordan was the winning pitcher, going the distance and scattering nine hits. She gave up three runs (2 earned) and struck out four without walking a batter.

For Berlin, Jill Farrand was 3-for-3 with two doubles while Julia Matan had two hits and scored a run. Lexi Walters and Sara Cugno both had hits and an RBI each.
