WEST HAVEN—Abigail Corris fired a three hitter, striking out 12 while walking just one, to lead the Foran Lions to a 2-1 win over Cheshire in the SCC Championship game at West Haven High School on Thursday.
It was Foran’s first league title since 2016, when head coach Gina Georgetti was a junior with the Lions.
With Corris shining bright in the circle, Foran just had to find a couple of runs and the Lions did so in the sixth inning.
With one out, Ariella Diorio singled to center field. Maya Fallon-Silva then laced a double to put Lions on second and third.
Olivia Gregory then successfully bunted, reaching first on a single but neither of the Lions baserunners were able to move up on the play, leaving the bases loaded.
A base hit by freshman Emily Speringo plated one run with the second run scoring on an error, giving the Lions a 2-1 lead.
With Corris dealing—she struck out five of the next seven batters she faced—the Lions found themselves celebrating a title while improving to 23-0 on the season.
Fallon-Silva was 2-for 3 for Foran with a double and a run scored. Deldin was 2-for-2 also with a double.
For Cheshire, Jordan McCue (run scored) and Julia Miller both had triples, and Tai Byrd had the Rams’ hits.
