Outlook: After opening the season with a 3-1 win over Akron, the Pioneers haven’t found the win column again, falling in four straight games. In the circle, Sacred Heart has some good arms, led by Kowalski, who had a 2.17 ERA last season despite a 12-15 record. For the Pioneers to be successful, the offense must score more runs. They only scored 183 of them last season in 48 games, or just 3.8 a game. Only three returning players hit better than .250 last season. The Pioneers must find a way to boost its offense to have more success this spring. Sacred Heart was picked to finish fifth in the MAAC this season, according to the preseason coaches’ poll. Allie Ortiz, a Fairfield Warde product, is the lone Connecticut player on the squad.
