For the record, Week 3’s winners of the CT Softball Blog’s Union 12 Design’s Player and Pitcher of the Week easily could have flip-flopped roles and still earned their respective honors.

After all, Ellington’s Tyla Gambacorta and Dariens’ Vivian Knott are both big time threats at the plate and top-of-the-line pitchers in the circle.

When all was said and done and that stats were locked and loaded, however, it was Gambacorta who is being named Player of the Week while Knott receives the nod as the Pitcher of the Week.

Gambacorta had a huge week at the plate for Ellington as the Purple Knights went 3-1 to improve to 7-1. All told, Gambacorta—who has taken over Ellington’s pitching duties from Camryn Fisher, last year’s Gatorade Player of the Year—was 11-for-15 at the plate with 11 runs scored and 10 RBIs. She had four home runs, a triple and a double as Ellington defeated Suffield, Bolton, and Canton before suffering its first loss of the season to Waterford. (In Ellington’s three wins last week, she gave up just two runs–unearned–and struck out 35 while walking three in 17 innings of work.

Knott, meanwhile, once again had a strong week both in the circle and at the plate. As a pitcher, Knott threw two complete games in wins over Wilton (6-0) and St. Joseph (4-0). She also threw one inning in the team’s win over Stamford.

Her final numbers for the week: 15 innings in the circle, three hits given up, 35 strikeouts, 1 walk. She had 18 K’s against Wilton and 14 more against St. Joe’s while striking out the side in her lone inning of work against the Black Knights. Knott also had a big week at the plate, going 6-for-10 with four runs scored and two doubles.

In the circle or at the plate, both players shined in Week 3.
