One is a freshman who is just starting to terrorize pitchers around the state.

The other is a senior who likes to shut down batters who try to terrorize pitchers around the state.

And this week, Kolbe Cathedral freshman Samantha Galarza and Brookfield senior pitcher Sydney Miller are the winners of the CT Softball Blog’s Union 12 Design Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Galaraza had a week any batter can only dream about: She was 11-for-15 with 9 runs scored and 17 RBIs over the course of four games. She had three home runs, two doubles, a triple and a walk … meaning her on-base percentage last week was a whopping .800.

Miller, meanwhile, was once again in shutdown mode on the mound as the Bobcats went 3-0 on the week. She finished the week with a 3-0 record, striking out 52 batters in 22 innings—including 20 K’s in an 8-inning win over Pomperaug. She pitched a one-hitter against Bunnell, and a three-hitter against New Fairfield
