There’s always been a running joke in New England: If you don’t like the weather, wait 10 minutes.

A lot of athletic directors around the southern end of the state didn’t like the weather forecast for Thursday, so they quickly postponed their games.

Come game time, however, much of the state was under sunny skies as Thursday’s forecast of a lot of rain never materialized.

So some games will be made up under the pressure of an end of a regular season that is fast approaching.

As for the games that did occur because athletic directors played their cards close to their chest and waited to see what the weather would be like at first pitch?

Here’s the rundown of the games that were played:

Trumbull 3, New Canaan 2

Brianna Potok delivered a one-out single, scoring Victoria Dobrydney as Trumbull earned the walk-off win against New Canaan.

The Eagles had led 2-0 before New Canaan scored twice in the top of seventh to tie things.

In the bottom half of the seventh, however, the Eagles were able to find one more run. Dobrydney started the rally by reaching on an error. With one out, Bella Matta walked and Kylie Lucia had an infield hit to load the bases.

That brought up Potok, the senior shortstop, who laced a 2-2 pitch to center for the win.

Julia Terry (1 RBI) and Lucia (1 run) both had two hits each for the Eagles. Ella Ferris also hit a solo home run.

Madison Pippa earned the complete game win, striking out 9 and walking 2. Both of the runs scored off of her were unearned.

For New Canaan, Lauren Fico had a two-run home run in the seventh to tie the game. Maya Aquino and Julia Fittipaldi had the Rams’ other hits. Fico scattered eight hits, striking out five and she walked one

Daniel Hand 12, Bristol Central 5

The host Tigers scored nine times in the bottom of the sixth inning to blow open a close game against the previously once-beaten Rams.

Hand took advantage of 12 walks by Bristol Central’s pitching to get the win. Lena Aguzzi was 3-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI while Bella Fahy was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Riley Amenta also had a triple while Campbell Leckey doubled.

For Central, Olivia Stafford (1 run, 1 RBI) had a pair of triples while Bailey Adkins (1 run, 1 RBI) had a triple and a single. Emma Kulak and Madelyn Milkowski added two hits each, with Milkowski notching a double.
