As the season winds down and the intensity ratchets up, the games become more important.
So too do the moments.
Seymour blasted five home runs on the day as the Wildcats avenged an early season loss to Woodland Regional, leading a long list of big matchups that included victories by Ridgefield (over FCIAC first-place team Darien), Foran (over Mercy), Jonathan Law (over Sheehan), Cheshire (over Amity) and Lyman Hall (over North Haven).
Here’s a closer look at those games along with a full scoreboard:
Seymour 14, Woodland 2
The host Wildcats erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the sixth to avenge an early-season loss to Woodland Regional.
The Hawks had topped Seymour 8-6 earlier this season.
Julia Raucci was 3-for-3 with two home runs three runs scored and four RBIs to lead Seymour’s offense, which erupted for 15 hits. Mia Cunningham also had three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs.
All told, Seymour blasted five home runs with Meghan O’Hayre and Rachael DeAngelis also getting into the act. O’Hayre also had four RBIs while DeAngelis plated two.
Alexa Klisus was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Leah Parkoswich (double) and Danielle Nangle adding two hits each, too.
Cassidy Marcinczyk went the distance, giving up two earned runs. She struck out seven and walked one.
For Woodland, Caitlyn Braun had two hits, including a solo home run.
Ridgefield 5, Darien 4
Sonia Gaughran and Jada Metzger both had two hits and Emma Samoskevich drove in two runs to lead Ridgefield to the win over Darien.
Vita Figaro added a solo home run, as well for the Tigers. Pitcher Caitlin McGratty scattered six hits, giving up just two earned runs. She struck out six and walked three.
For the Blue Wave, who suffered just their third loss of the season, six different players had hits with Anna Franzese and Camden Comfort both having a double and two RBIs apiece. Claire Willing pitched instead of Vivian Knott, scattering seven hits and giving up just two earned runs. She fanned four and walked two.
The loss created a three-way “tie” for first in the FCIAC, but Darien does hold the tie-breaker over both New Canaan and Danbury.
Cheshire 4, Amity 0
Jenica Matos (19 Ks, 2 walks) pitched another shutout to lead the Rams to the victory.
Blake Hall had two hits for the Rams. Jordan McCue, Lyla Blair and Avery Radford and singles.
For Amity, Sydney Delpo had a single and a double. Gabby Cellozzi pitched well, giving up just two earned runs while striking out six and walking three.
Foran 3, Mercy 0
Abigail Corris fired a two-hit shutout as the host Lions defeated Mercy. Corris struck out 10 and didnt walk a batter in the game.
Ariela Diorio had two doubles an RBI for Foran while Maddie Deldin had a single and an RBI and Emily Speringo doubled, as well.
For Mercy, Maggie Mathews and Carley Weisenberg both had hits. Pip Karch gave up just four hits, striking out six with just a walk.
Jonathan Law 8, Sheehan 1
Julia Scibek was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a home run and four RBIs as the Lawmen beat Sheehan.
Gabby Rodriguez had three hits, with a triple while Lily Stankevich had three base hits to help Law’s 11-hit attack. Pitcher Maddy Bonanno gave up three hits, striking out four with just one walk.
For Sheehan, Briella Krystofolski doubled while Anna Cappas and Julia Cassesse both singled.
Lyman Hall 4, North Haven 3
Lyman Hall scored three runs in the top of the seventh to snatch a victory over host North Haven.
Addison Knight and Hailey Wisnieswki both had RBI singles and Mia Tyrell had a sacrifice fly to supply the runs in that inning.
Mattingly Andrews had two hits for Lyman Hall while Aislinn Uhl and Ava Saez both doubled. Sophie Tetreault struck out 13 and walked nobody while scattering seven hits.
For North Haven, Chloe Belcher had two hits, Kyla Champagne had a solo home run and Emelia Brandi had two RBIs.
