The later in the season the more performances feel magnified.
Two of the hottest teams in the state—Jonathan Law and Nonnewaug—are heading into the postseason on a roll and two of its top players are being honored as last week’s CT Softball Blog Union 12 Design Player and Pitcher of the Week.
Lawmen third baseman Julia Scibek gets the nod for Player of the Week while Scarlett Ivey on Nonnewaug is last week’s Pitcher of the Week.
In three wins for Jonathan Law—a 5-2 win over Amity, a 14-5 decision over Lyman Hall, and an 8-1 victory over Sheehan—Scibek went 7-for-11 with seven runs scored and nine RBIs. She had two doubles against Amity and a two-run home run in the win over Sheehan. The Lawmen have won 10 straight and are 17-3 on the season as it heads into the SCC playoffs on Thursday vs. Lyman Hall.
At Nonnewaug, Ivey pitched the Chiefs to a pair of wins last week—a 15-2 win over Lakeview and a 13-0 victory over Northwestern Regional. Combined, Ivey threw 11 innings, giving up five hits and zero earned runs. She struck out 10 and walked just two. Nonnewaug has won 17 of its last 18 with its only loss coming to No. 1 Cheshire.
