With the regular season winding down against the upcoming conference tournaments, some teams are having to get clever with their schedules.
Southington High School closed out its regular season with a doubleheader of sorts on Thursday—two road games at two different locations.
The Blue Knights opened the day with an afternoon game at New Britain, posting a 7-0 win before heading to Sage Park in Berlin to face the Red Coats in a night game. Southington won that one by an 8-1 score, to finish the regular season 18-2
Here’s a look at some of Thursday’s games, along with the complete scoreboard:
Southington Sweeps Road Twinbill
In the first game, Hannah Snow (4 innings, 0 runs, 1 hit, 6 strikeouts, 2 walks) and Taryn Frolish (3 innings, 0 runs, 1 hit, 6 strikeouts, 0 walks) combined on the two-hit shutout to lead the Blue Knights to the win.
Lexi Fortin was 3-for-4 with a run scored while Briana Miron drove in three runs and Erica Hudson drove in two with two hits. Carley Dudac also had two hits. All 11 of Southington’s hits were singles.
In the second game, Alexa Poutouves was 4-for-4 with two runs scored an RBI as Southington topped Berlin. Olivia Gombotz drove in three with two hits and Savanna Eliasson had two hits, as well.
Angie Insogna went the distance, striking out 9 and walking 1. She scattered six hits.
For Berlin, Jill Farrand had two hits and an RBI.
Enfield 2, Ellington 0
Claire Bouffard threw a two-hit shutout, striking out 11 and walking a one, to lead Enfield to the win.
Bouffard also had the lone hit for Enfield, a single.
For Ellington, Tyla Gambacorta gave up one earned run, striking out five and walking three, in a hard-luck loss. Rachel Milheiro and Avery Rockefeller had the Knights’ two hits.
Plainville 3, Killingly 2
Lexi Smith singled home run and Laurissa Gedney doubled home another in the bottom of the sixth inning as Plainville came from behind to beat Killingly.
Gedney was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Plainville. Riley Lewis also scored a pair of runs after getting on base three times via walks. Isabella Britland went the distance, getting the win while striking out three and walking one.
For Killingly, Sophia Moran and Kairah Guertin had two hits each while Declyn Benjamin had a double and an RBI.
