The CIAC state softball tournament semifinals will be held on Monday and Tuesday with the winners of each game advancing to the state championship contest on Saturday at UConn’s Burrill Family Field in Storrs.
Here are a capsulized look at today’s Class L games:

CLASS L GIRLS SOFTBALL SEMIFINALS

STORY LINE: No matter what happens on Monday Jonathan Law has cemented itself as the team that ended Masuk’s seven-year-long stranglehold on the Class L state championship. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster season for the Lawmen, who have overcome a lot of adversity this season to make the SCC championship game (losing 2-0 on an eighth inning walk-off home run to Cheshire) and now to the Class L semifinals. This matchup features a great pitching showdown between the hard-throwing Sydney Miller and a spin-guru that is Maddy Bonanno. Miller and Brookfield have been shining bright lately, having surrendered just one run in its last six games. Both teams boast good solid lead-off hitters who know how to get on base. Law’s Stankevich is one of the top lead-offers in the state while Sinapi for Brookfield might be only a sophomore but plays beyond her years. The last time Brookfield played for a state title was in 2018 when it fell to Masuk by a 10-0 score. For Law, its last trip to the finals was in 2023 when the Lawmen lost to Masuk 3-0. With no more Masuk standing in the way, one of these teams is two wins from a state title.
A SINGLE LINE: If Sydney Miller is pure Miller, then the Bobcats are advancing but if Bonanno’s spin-rate gives Brookfield fits then Law is headed to Storrs.

No. 2 New Milford vs. No. 14 Waterford
DAY/TIME: Monday, June 8, 2026; 7 p.m., at Clyde Washburne Field, Eastern Connecticut State University.
TEAM RECORDS: No. 2 New Milford (22-2), No. 14 Waterford (17-9)
COACHES: New Milford—Robert Farmer; Waterford—Andrew Walker.
ROAD TO THE SEMIS: New Milford—4-0 over Fitch; 2-1 over Mercy; Waterford—19-7 over Bristol Eastern; 14-4 over Avon; 19-10 over East Lyme;
KEY PLAYERS: New Milford—Cienna McNamara, Jr., SS; Regan O’Loughlin, Sr., 2B; Lilly Fortier, Jr., C; Lydia Rocky, Soph., P; Carly Coloneri, Jr., OF; Grace Staller, Fr, OF; Maddie Caverly, Soph, 3B; Krista Manka, Soph., LF; Lia Manka, Sr., 1B; Waterford—Avery Gallerani, Fr., DP; Aubrie Willis, Soph., OF; Ava Waddington, Sr., 1B; Bella Rush, Soph., 3B; Isabel Henry, Sr., C; Victoria Adamski,Soph., SS; Lucy Walker, Sr., OF; Reese Firmin, Fr, P; Audra Fiano, Sr., 2B.
STORY LINE: The Waterford bats have been on fire as the Lancers have scored 100 runs in its last six games, going 5-1 in the process. It was an up and down season for Waterford with a four-game win streak to open the season being the Lancers most consistent run. If Waterford can knock off New Milford, it will match that four-game win streak. The Green Wave boast a solid sophomore pitcher (Rocky) who is shouldering the entire pitching load alone this season as well as arguably one of the best hitters in the state in McNamara, a University of North Carolina commit who is a five-tool player. Waterford made the Class L championship game last year, falling to Masuk by a 3-0 score. New Milford has never advanced to a state softball championship game.
A SINGLE LINE: Waterford has been scoring runs in bunches lately while New Milford hasn’t (14 in its last 5 games), so whichever offense has the better day is headed to the finals.
