The CIAC has announced its game times for Saturday’s four state championship softball games.
All four games will be played at the University of Connecticut’s Burrill Family Field in Storrs.
Leading off is the big schools as No. 1 Cheshire will put their undefeated season on the line against No. 2 Southington. The Rams, who are ranked No. 1 in Connecticut in both the GametimeCT and CT Softball Blog polls, are also nationally ranked, coming in at No. 24 with a 26-0 record. Southington, meanwhile, brings a 23-3 mark into the game. First pitch is slated for 10 a.m.
Up next are the Class M schools. In a rematch of last year’s championship game, which is slated to start at 1 p.m. The defending champ Foran Lions, seeded fourth with a 21-5 record, will face No. 7 Woodland Regional (21-5). A year ago, Foran beat the Hawks by a 1-0 score in 13 innings.
In the 4 p.m. game, it’s another No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup as top-seeded Brookfield, which survived a 15-inning thriller, will take a 25-1 record into the contest against the second-seeded New Milford Green Wave (23-2). The two schools are separated by just nine miles and it was the Green Wave handing the Bobcats their only loss, by a 6-5 score back on April 22.
Finally, in the nightcap, the small schools will get to shine under the brightest of lights. This also another rematch of last year’s Class S final. No. 3 North Branford (24-2) will take on top-seeded St. Paul Catholic (25-2). A year ago, North Branford’s Thunderbirds won the title with a 4-2 win.
