BRISTOL—Makinnley Whitlock drove in three runs and three pitchers combined for a one-hitter as the Bristol Little League Softball 12-year-old All-Stars ran away with the Section 1 championship on Wednesday night with an 11-0 win over Fairfield at Greenleaf Field.
Both teams now advance to next week’s Connecticut State Tournament in Waterford.
Bristol only had five hits in the game but took advantage of eight Fairfield walks and three errors. Eight of the team’s runs came in the top of the third inning, turning a tenuous 3-0 lead into a big advantage that would carry it to the title.
In the circle, Lucy Bastiaanse (2.2 innings, 1 hit, three walks, 1 strikeout), Avery Collins (0.1 inning, 1 strikeout) and Lucy Kalat (1 inning, 1 walk, 1 strike out) did a nice job keeping a solid Fairfield lineup off base for much of the game.
Bastiaanse (1 run), Keeva Knowles (2 runs), Kalat (1 run, 1 RBI) and Faith Marie Ramos (1 RBI) had the other hits for Bristol, all singles.

Kalat’s RBI single gave Bristol a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Whitlock then laid down a sacrifice bunt for the second run.
In the third, as part of the eight-run uprising, Whitlock had a two-run single, as well.
All told, in the Section 1 tournament, Bristol went 3-0, outscoring its opponents by a 25-5 tally.
The full Bristol roster includes: Lucy Bastiaanse, Keeva Knowles, Lucy Kalat, Makinnley Whitlock, Avery Collins, Mary Thompson, Ava Lefurgey, Dakota Green, Ellie Tiscia, Alexandra Patterson, FaithMarie Ramos and Juliana Pavlak.
