STAFFORD SPRINGS—The East Lyme-Salem Little League Softball 12-year-old All-Stars scored single runs in the first, second and third inning, carrying the team to a 3-2 win over Madison-Clinton for the Section 2 championship on Wednesday at Kealy Field.
Both teams will now advance to next week’s Connecticut State Tournament in Waterford.
While the ELS offense belted out 10 hits, its three runs held up thanks to its pitching.
Ava Menchaca went the distance, scattering four hits and given up a pair of unearned runs. She struck out three and walked just one.

Offensively, Paison Perkins (1 run, 1 RBI) had a single and a double, Angeline Lloyd (1 run) had two doubles, and Eva Manwaring had two singles.
Charley Brennan also doubled and drew a walk.
In the top of the first inning, ELS took a 1-0 lead when Perkins led off with a double and scored on a bad throw.
The East Lyme-Salem squad added another run in the next inning.
Menchaca led off with a single and later scored when Manwaring singled.

While Madison-Clinton got one run back in the bottom of the second on Arabella Pacelli’s RBI single, ELS added a third run in the third inning to keep its momentum going.
Lloyd doubled with one out. She would later score on Nellie Simmon’s sacrifice fly.
Madison-Clinton added a run in the fourth when Sarah Rosenthal opened the inning with a single and later scored on an error.
For the Madison-Clinton squad, Rosenthal, Pacelli, Lauren Marro, and Briannah MacInnis had the hits, all singles.
Marro pitched well, scattering 10 hits while giving up just the three runs. She struck out four and walked one.
