As an athlete growing up, the world of sports was a place where life lessons ran deep. It made me who I am today.

From my days as a 10-year-old Little Leaguer, to a youth basketball player, to becoming an average run-of-the-mill, three-sport high school athlete, to becoming an adult slow-pitch softball player, sports simply became a part of me.

As such, I’ve made it my life. I made this place—the World of Sports—my profession. Working as a sports journalist, a coach, a referee, I’ve been on the sidelines ever since I stepped away from the playing fields and courts of my youth.

Last spring, at the end of my eighth year coaching high school varsity softball, my team was blessed enough to win our league championships—both regular season and postseason tournament.

It was a ride I’ll never forget, filled with players I will never forget.

And, outside of the 15 or so of us that made up our program, who knew?

Nobody.

Newspapers have imploded on themselves and “local journalism” doesn’t exist anymore—especially here in Connecticut.

It’s regional journalism these days, unfortunately.

But after I stepped away from the playing field, following the proverbial “Gatorade bath” (it was water) you see above, I felt like I wasn’t done giving to this sport.

I was no longer a coach, but what did I have to give to this sport.

I know I want to keep giving back to this world that has given me so much. So I give you my words. My experience as a story teller.

My latest endeavor begins today with the publication of the CT Softball Blog.

This place, this little “diamond” of the internet if you will, will bring you the people and places and stories about the sport of softball here in the state of Connecticut.

From the world of travel softball to high school and college ball, I’m hoping this is a place that can celebrate the sport of the softball and the athletes, the coaches, the umpires … and well the stories.

Straight up: One thing you need to remember and realize and (hopefully) embrace. This is not a journalism site. My stories will be accurate. My professionalism will assure myself of that.

But this a blog (short for Web log) so it will be a mish-mash of everything I think and it will develop and change over the time.

But it will focus on those who make the sport of softball such a special place.

I hope you enjoy. Let’s play ball, shall we?
