Lauren Haversat’s softball career is coming to a close.
The University of New Haven shortstop out of Seymour High School has just a handful of games left in her career, a journey that started when she followed in his sister’s cleat marks and rose all the way up to a Division-2 college player.
On that journey, Haversat served as a four-year varsity player at Seymour, where she was a member of two Naugatuck Valley League conference championship teams and a state championship squad in 2017.
A former travel player who cut her teeth playing at home for the highly respected Seymour Tradition and Extreme Chaos, Haversat is wrapping her final season hitting .247 in 27 games, 26 of which she started. She has had one double, one triple and 11 RBIs this season.
She will graduate this spring as a medical laboratory sciences major.
Following the Chargers doubleheader sweep at the hands of the University of Bridgeport last week, Haversat took timeout to have an “Extra Innings” conversation with the Connecticut Softball Blog.
FIRST INNING: How did you get into the sport of softball?
LAUREN HAVERSAT: Honestly? Well, my sister (Brittany) played softball before me, so she’s older, so I just kind of followed in her footsteps and just kind of kept going, fell in love with it and here I am now.
SECOND INNING: How did the Seymour softball program prepare you for a college career?
LH: The coaches were absolutely amazing, from Little League and even the high school. They coached us really well, and just got us ready and helped us to get recruited.
THIRD INNING: What has the University of New Haven experience meant to you, being a softball player here?
LH: Honestly, it’s been really great meeting new people. Obviously, we’ve had so many coaches in the past few years but I’m really happy that we have the coach we have now, Coach (Kelly) Patterson. She’s been just really great, and I know from here on for other teams coming in and the girls, it’s just going to be a great season. I know it’s going to be good.

FOURTH INNING: What is the No. 1 highlight in your softball career? What’s that moment that you think back on going, man, that was awesome?
LH: Oh God. I’d have to say first home run. It’s just such an accomplishment to have. It just feels so good. It was 12U and I think it was in Southington. Yeah.
FIFTH INNING: You’re a shortstop. What do you like about that position?
LH: I just absolutely love just having so much range and getting to the balls. I feel like middle infielders get the ball so much, so I just love being in the action.
SIXTH INNING: What’s your go-to, pregame, hype-up music?
LH: Like a genre? I’d have to say rap or throwback gets me hyped. Gets me in the mood.

SEVENTH INNING: Let’s switch gears now and get away from the softball questions. What scares you?
LH: What scares me? Oh God. I don’t know. I’d have to say failure. Failing at things.
EIGHTH INNING: If you were going to go home to Seymour tonight, what’s the perfect home-cooked meal your family is going to make you?
LH: Baked chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli.
NINTH INNING: Hollywood’s making a movie of your life. Who stars as you and what’s the title?
LH: (Laughs) Let’s see. Mila Kunis, and I guess the title would be “Lauren’s Life.”
TENTH INNING: If you could go out and have coffee with three people and just talk, who would you go with and what would you talk about?
LH: (Pauses) Okay. Well, I’d have to say for two—my grandparents, and then for the last one, I don’t know? My sister. And we’d just talk about life, what’s been going on with school and after school when I graduate. Stuff like that.
ELEVENTH INNING: What one word best describes Lauren Haversat?
LH: I’d have to say funny. I’m very chill, I guess. Very laid back, but when it comes to softball, I’m very serious, but I’m always trying to make a joke or make people laugh.
