While the college softball postseason got under way last week, three more in-state squads kick off their tournament play today.
In New Haven, Albertus Magnus (19-16, 11-3 in the league) is hosting St. Joseph’s of Connecticut (13-21, 5-9) in the first round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament. First pitch is slated to be thrown at 3:30 p.m.
The winner of that game will advance to Thursday’s double-elimination pod play.

Also, eighth-seeded Southern Connecticut (17-23, 8-14) will travel to fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire (27-13, 14-8) for a Northeast-10 play-in game.
The winner of that gave advances to play Southern New Hampshire on Thursday.

Six days ago, the Albertus Magnus swept a doubleheader from St. Joseph, winning 11-0 and 3-1.
In the first game, Falcons pitcher Annabelle Jabs, a sophomore out of East Hartland and Northwest Regional, fired four innings of the shutout. Skylar Arent, a junior out of Ridgefield, got the win in game two, throwing seven innings and striking out four and allowing just one earned run on six hits.
Franklin Pierce swept a doubleheader over Southern Connecticut during the regular season, posting wins of 3-0 and 9-3 over the Owls.
Southern enters its matchup against Franklin Pierce with an all-time record of 23-16 in the NE10 tournament, with its last tournament appearance coming in 2022. That season, the Owls – also the 8-seed, upset No. 5 Pace in the first round, 3-2, before falling to Southern New Hampshire, 1-0.
An intriguing in-state regular season game is also on the docket as Fairfield hosts Central Connecticut at 2 p.m.
