It’s going to be a loud Shoreline Conference championship game as the Thunderbirds of North Branford will take on the Noises of Hale-Ray for the title.
Top-seeded North Branford defeated Coginchaug by a 2-0 score in one of Tuesday’s semifinals while Hale-Ray bested Lyme-Old Lyme, 7-0, to advance.
The title game will be played at 4 p.m., Thursday, at Morgan High School in Clinton.
NORTH BRANFORD 2, COGINCHAUG 0
North Branford pitcher Lauren Vitarisi spun a brilliant complete-game, two-hitter, striking out 13 and walking just one as the Thunderbirds advanced to the championship game.
The winners scored single runs in the second and fifth innings to give Vitarisi all the support she needed.
In the second inning, North Branford took a 1-0 lead when Alia Martone doubled and scored on Christina Aneiro’s single.
In the fifth, the Thunderbirds doubled their lead. Gabriella Bigio drew a lead-off walk, giving way to pinch runner Lily Ardito. Ardito would steal second before moving up to third on a fly out by Adriana Hills.
Ardito would later score on a passed ball to make it a 2-0 final.
Vitarisi also had a double for North Branford, which was held to just three hits.
Emily Allen of Coginchaug took the tough loss, pitching a complete-game three-hitter with just one earned run. She fanned 13 and walked five.
She had one of her team’s two hits with Anna Meisenkothen recording the other.
HALE-RAY 7, LYME-OLD LYME 0
Lily Jahne was her brilliant self, hurling a one-hitter and striking out 15 to lead the Noises to the win.
Maggie Janecek drove in three runs for Hale-Ray while Autumn Landry plated two with two hits, including a triple. Jahne and Jackie Goetz also had two singles each for the Noises.
Seven different Hale-Ray players scored runs.
For Lyme-Old Lyme, Olivia Lovendale had the lone single.
