Central Connecticut State University softball coach Breanne Gleason is a Connecticut girl through and through.
She hails from Bristol and attended Bristol Central High School, where she was an All-State player in 2005 and 2006, before embarking on a fantastic career at the University of New Haven.
Gleason’s latest honor came earlier this month when the Northeast 10 Conference announced she had become a Hall of Famer.
The former pitcher, who was a two-time All-American for the Chargers, is one of 10 NE-10 athletes being honored. She is the first New Haven softball player to be inducted into the conference Hall of Fame.
A 2010 graduate of UNH, Gleason was also a three-time All-Conference, and four-time All-Region selection on the diamond for the Chargers.
Gleason holds the Chargers records for pitching appearances, strikeouts, wins and innings pitched.
Offensively she has more doubles and at-bats than anyone in program history.
As a freshman, she burst onto the scene, going 21-15 with a 1.71 ERA in the circle and boasting a .355 average at the plate.
Gleason’s production is a major reason why the Blue & Gold qualified for the NCAA Tournament in her final three years with the program.
Gleason helped lead New Haven to a 130-66 recordduring her softball career.
In 2010, she had her best season – being named both NE10 Player and Pitcher of the Year, a feat accomplished by only two other players in league history – while the Chargers advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals.
In two seasons of NE10 competition, she was 68-23 as a pitcher with 663 strikeouts in 590 innings. Gleason totaled 15 home runs, 58 RBI and 98 hits as a junior and senior.
She becomes the first New Haven softball student-athlete to be inducted into the NE10 Hall of Fame.
Gleason has been with the CCSU softball program since 2013, serving as head coach since 2016. She has been a part of both of CCSU’s Northeast Conference softball championships and appearances in the NCAA Tournament. As head coach, her coaching staff has been named NEC Coaching Staff of the Year in both 2021 and 2023. Gleason has helped develop NEC Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Golden Glove Award winners during her tenure. She has steered Central into seven Northeast Conference Tournament trips, including each of the past three seasons, while winning at least 20 games on six occasions. Gleason was inducted into the New Haven Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.
