NEW HAVEN — Albertus Magnus College Director of Athletics Michael Kobylanski has announced that Lou Bunosso has been named as Assistant Coordinator for Student-Athlete Success. Bunosso will also continue to serve as the Falcons’ head softball coach.
As the Assistant Coordinator for Student-Athlete Success, Bunosso will oversee the department’s athletics study hall program, collaborate with academic advisors and student success navigators for improved intervention and retention. He will also track academic performance and progress for all student-athletes.
“I am thrilled that Lou was receptive to this expanded role within our department,” Kobylanski said. “He has made a significant impact over his first two years as our head softball coach. His student-athletes have consistently performed at a high level in the classroom during his tenure. As a department, our student-athletes posted record-setting academic achievements in 2024-25. I look forward to Lou helping to ensure that success continues in the coming year and beyond.”
Bunosso is heading into his third season as the head softball coach at Albertus, amassing a 49-37 record overall and a 27-9 record in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), and qualifying for the conference tournament in each of his first two seasons at the helm..
Last season, Bunosso’s team reached the pod finals in the GNAC tournament and had three players named All-GNAC, including Conference Rookie of the Year, Karla Carangelo
In the classroom, Bunosso had three of his student-athletes named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team and nine of his student-athletes named to the GNAC All-Academic Team while the team averaged over a 3.5 GPA for the 2024-25 academic year.
Prior to Albertus, Bunosso was the head softball coach at Fairfield Ludlowe High School in Fairfield, Conn., from 2018-23. While there, Bunosso compiled a 107-18 record, including three consecutive Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) titles and the Class LL State Softball Championship in 2023 after finishing the season 26-1. He was also named FCIAC Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2023 and voted on as the 2023 Coach of the Year by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association.
Bunosso graduated with a Bachelor of Science in General Studies with a Concentration in Management, Marketing, and Communication from Charter Oak State College in December 2024. He earned his Associate of Science in Communications from Housatonic Community College in 1991.
