STORRS—The University of Connecticut softball program introduced Cheshire’s Jordan McCue and six other recruits as its Class of 2030 earlier this month.

McCue arrives in Storrs after lettering four seasons at Cheshire High School for Head Coach Kristine Drust.

Last spring, she helped lead Cheshire to a CIAC Class LL State Championship, leading the team in batting average, RBI, stolen bases, and doubles. Her stellar junior season landed her on the All-State team and First Team All-Southern Connecticut Conference.

“Jordan’s athleticism and versatility shine in everything she does, and she plays with a heart full of gratidude and purpose,” UConn coach Laura Valentino said. “Her work ethic and love for the game are the kind of traits that will contribute to our championship culture.”

McCue said this about joining the Huskies program.

“It feels really good to represent my state and they play at a really high level,” McCue told the CT Softball Blog back in August. “I’m so thrilled I’ll get a chance to try and play a role for them.”

McCue had originally committed to play at Iona, but the coaching staff left the Gaels program so the Cheshire second baseman, who can also play outfield, re-opened her recruitment.

She found her home not far home.

“Jordan is such a special player and human,” Cheshire High coach Kristine Drust said. “She brings so much dynamically to the team and to the field. Her vulnerability on and off the field is a culture builder for our program. She plays fast and she plays gritty.  In my opinion, she is one of the best ball players in Connecticut, and it’s not a surprise that UConn didn’t skip a beat when she decommitted.”

McCue will become the third Connecticut player on the Huskies roster, joining infielder Grace Carrington (Orange/Amity Regional) and Alex Bacher (Ridgefield/St. Luke’s School).

Six other players will be joining McCue with the UConn program, including

The class consists of Hannah Evans (OF, Elizabeth, Penn.), Riley Greene (INF, St. George, Utah), Abby Luis (INF, Redondo Beach, Calif.), Angela Sasso (Pitcher, Freehold, NJ), Delaney Vannoy (Pitcher, Leander, Texas), and Lulu West (Pitcher, St. George, Utah).

“This 2026 class embodies everything that defines UConn Softball — energy, grit, passion, and a relentless work ethic,” said Valentino. “With their competitiveness, versatility, and championship mindset, they will help us continue to build a dominant dynasty within our program and will continue to raise our standards.”
