Outlook: It’s a big year for the University of New Haven softball program as it makes the jump to Division 1, joining the Northeast Conference this spring. Coming off last season’s 11-33 Division 2 campaign, such a jump can be both scary and exciting for the Chargers. UNH only lost four seniors from a year ago, and nine seniors are on the roster this spring to help lead the transition, however. Only one regular hit over .300 last season, so the Chargers will have to find a way to score more runs against tougher competition. UNH was outscored 243-126 over 43 games last season. New Haven was selected ninth out of nine teams in the NEC’s preseason coaches poll. Players from Connecticut include: Pellicone (Sandy Hook/Newtown), Jessica Petit (Berlin), Johnson (Branford), Aaliya Amidon (Ledyard), Ceccarelli (Griswold), and Depino (Northford/North Branford).
