Outlook: The Bears were young last season with just two seniors, so it is a veteran USCGA group that has gotten off to a good start this season with six wins in eight games. Hot hitting (.356 as a team, with seven players hitting .400 or better) and some great pitching (0.70 team ERA) have led the early season charge. In the circle, Zoey Lynn, a freshman, has gone 17.1 innings without giving up an earned run while senior Dana Walker, last year’s ace (14-9 1.90 ERA) has surrendered just three earned runs in 28.2 innings of action for a 0.73 ERA. It’s a small roster (17 players) by Division III standards, but the Coast Guard Academy is talented and ready to make a splash in the NEWMAC this spring. Players from Connecticut that are on the roster include: sophomore Olivia Garcia (Oxford) and Sage Svalestad (East Hampton/Mercy).
