Matos earned three more wins on the week, pitching 19 innings and giving up just two hits total as the Rams beat Lauralton Hall (13-0), Sheehan (7-0) and Foran (6-0).

The St. John’s-bound right-hander struck out 44 in those three games while walking nine.

Cheshire, now 7-0, is the No. 1 ranked team in the state, according to both the CT Softball Blog’s Players’ Top 10 Poll and the GametimeCT Media/Coaches Poll.

Ely, who is taking her game to the University of Delaware, meanwhile, had a huge week at the plate, driving in 12 runs as the Panthers won all three games they played last week.

For the week, Ely was 8-for-12  (.667) with eight runs scored and 12 RBIs. She smashed four home runs and had three doubles as the Panthers bested New Fairfield (16-4), Joel Barlow (26-4) and Southington (8-0) to stay undefeated on the season.

Both will receive CT Softball Player POTW t-shirts courtesy of Union 12 Designs in honor of their efforts on the field.
