By virtue of their big win over Foran last week, the Cheshire Rams have solidified the No. 1 spot in the CT Softball Blog’s Players’ Top 10 Poll heading into Week 3 of the season.

No. 1 Cheshire defeated last week’s No. 2 Foran, 6-0, on Friday. (Sidenote: Hearst Media’s GametimeCT had Foran (5-1) No. 1 and Cheshire No. 2). The Rams improved to 7-0 on the season.

The same day, No. 3 Masuk (4-0) beat No. 4 Southington (4-1) by an 8-0 score, leading to some flipping near the top.

Masuk is now the No. 2 team—getting one first-place vote—while Southington slipped a spot to No. 5

The biggest mover was 6-0 Brookfield, which jumped up two spots to the No. 4 ranking this week heading into Wednesday’s huge game against New Milford (6-0). New Milford makes its debut in the Top 10, in a tie for eighth with Darien (3-1).

Another newcomer, St. Paul Catholic (6-0), also climbed into the Top 10, taking the 10th and final spot after winning its first six games of the season.

In addition, two teams from the same town—Trumbull and St. Joseph—have fallen out of the Top 10.

All told, 16 of the state’s 177 CIAC teams are still undefeated.
