With Wednesday’s forecast for rain, Tuesday’s schedule became flooded with extra games as school’s moved their schedules around to avoid weather delays.
Here’s a look at Tuesday’s scores and games:
Woodland Regional 15, Kennedy 0
Caitlyn Braun and Lila DiBona combined on a one-hitter as Woodland Regional defeated Kennedy, giving head coach Loren Luddy and the Hawks program its 400th win in school history.
“It’s great for a school to come in and start winning games right away,” Luddy told Kevin Roberts of Hearst Media Connecticut. “It’s been great. I’ve had great kids, great parents, great travel programs, great everything. I’ve had just a lot of good kids that work hard, they play well together, they play like a team. They do a good job.”
Lily Benoit, Braun and DiBona both had three hits each for the Hawks. DiBona also had a double. Maddie Montini had two hits and two RBIs as did Emma DeGeorge, who also had a double. At the top of the line-up, Angelena Tottenham had two hits and reached base on a walk.
Braun and Ayla DeCrescenzo both homered.
Emerlyn Frias had Kennedy’s lone hit.
Southington 2, Hale-Ray 1
The host Knights scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to steal a 2-1 win over Hale-Ray on Tuesday.
A lead-off walk to Alexa Poutouves started things for Southington. Olivia Gombotz was then hit by a pitch. Aubrey Perugini laid down a bunt that turned into an error that plated Poutouves to tie the game at 1-1.
Gombotz would later score on a wild pitch, giving Southington the lead.
The Knights only got one hit off Hale-Ray starter Lily Jahne. That was a single by Nerea Maule.
Hale-Ray got four hits of Southignton starter Angie Insogna (1 earned run, 3 strikeouts, 0 walks). Fenway Jankowski got two of them, including a double. Jahne and Faith Kalisz had the other hits.
Foran 1, Amity 0
Arielle DiOrio’s sacrifice fly scored Norah Bove from third base in the bottom of the first inning, giving the Lions the only run it would need in a pitcher’s duel against Amity.
Bove had doubled to open the inning for Foran, moving to third on Emily Speringo’s infield single.
From there, Abigail Corris did the rest as she struck out nine, walked two and pitched a complete-game, three-hit shutout.
Maya Fallon-Silva had Foran’s other hit, a double.
For Amity, Gabriella Celozzi pitched a gem, giving up three hits and just the one run. She struck out three and walked one.
Angelina Charbonneau tripled to open the fourth inning, but couldn’t score. Sophia Richetelli doubled and Cellozi singled for Amity.
Trumbull 2, St. Joseph 1
The Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn the win over cross-town rival St. Joe’s.
Trailing 1-0, Trumbull’s Julia Terry opened the inning with a walk. With one out, she advanced to second on a wild pitch. Madison Pippa then tied the game, plating Terry with a single to center field. She advanced to second on the throw home.
Courtesy runner Melissa Lombardo took over for Pippa, the Eagles’ pitcher, and later scored on Maren Jones’ base hit to left field.
The Cadets threatened to tie the game in the seventh, putting runner on first and second with one out, but Pippa struck out the last two batters of the game to clinch the win.
Pippa limited St. Joe’s to just four hits. She struck out 16 and walked two. She also had two of Trumbull’s six hits of St. Joe’s Katie Dzialo (9 Ks, 1 walk), including a double.
Dzialo had two of the Cadets’ four hits.
Norwalk 13, Brien McMahon 4
Delaney O’Brien drove in four runs with two hits to lead the Bears to a 13-4 win over arch-rival Brien McMahon.
Mallory Lehn (triple, two singles) had three hits and two RBIs while Audra Lacomis (home run) and Zoey Wilds also plated two runs each. Lacomis had two hits total as did Alexis Lacomis and Maggie Donahue.
Audra Lacomis got the win on the mound, giving up just three hits. All but one of McMahon’s runs were earned. She struck out eight and walked three.
For the Senators, Isabella Spagnuolo, Liza Bowell and Becca Hurwitz all singled.
