Katie Dzialo of St. Joseph couldn’t have asked for a better Senior Day ending as she hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off victory over Staples highlighting the day’s CIAC games.
Fitch and Granby Memorial also won a pair of exciting games.
In the Western New England Playoffs, meanwhile, the top two seeds—Kingswood Oxford and Choate—were both stunned by upsets in the first round of the League Championship bracket.
Here’s a look at some of Saturday’s games and all the scores:
St. Joseph 4, Staples 2
In the top of the seventh inning, St. Joseph senior pitcher Katie Dzialo who, along with classmate Olivia Petrocelli, was celebrating Senior Day, gave up a solo home run to tie the game.
In the bottom of the seventh, Dzialo won the game with a two-run, walk-off home run.
Staples’ Olivia Schwartz hit her second career home run in the top of the seventh, a lead-off dinger to left field, to the tie the game.
The Cadets’ lead-off hitter, Mackie Caouette, then led off the 7th with a bunt single, moving to second on an error.
Dzialo, on the first pitch she saw, blasted a long home run to right center, ending the game and giving St. Joe’s the win.
The Cadets only managed three hits against Staples pitcher Makayla Hein. In addition to Caouette and Dzialo, Molly Kery had a single. Dzialo struck out six and gave up five hits. She didn’t walk a batter.
In addition to her home run, Schwartz also had a single. Amanda Lessing had two singles, as well, while Cora Barrett had Staples’ other hit. Hein struck out five and walked five.
Fitch 9, Montville 8
After watching Montville take a one-run lead with a six-run top of the sixth inning, Fitch scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to earn the win.
Jaedyn Steffens was 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs to lead the way while Kayla Gibson drove in five runs with a pair of hits, including a home run. Steffens had a double and a home run amongst her four safeties in the game.
Marcella Rentas and Katie MacPherson both had three hits each as well. Rentas had a triple and scored twice while MacPherson also scored two runs.
For Montville, Michalina Anton was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBIs while Sofia Feragne had a single and a double.
Granby Memorial 8, Bristol Central 7S
Tied at 6-6 entering the final inning, Granby Memorial scored twice in the seventh and then gave up one run to old on for the win.
Ellison Haury and Ashley Tetreault both had two hits for Granby Memorial. Tetreault also had two RBIs while Haury had a double. Brynne Simard also doubled while Sophia Vitelli recorded a triple.
For Bristol Central, Adkins was 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Gabby Fernandez (2 hits) and Liv Stafford both doubled while Abby Corbin had a pair of base hits.

Western New England Tournament
Suffield Academy 4, Choate Rosemary Hall 0
Suffield Academy pitcher Makenna Sherry struck out 11, walked two and gave up just two hits as No. 3 Suffield Academy blanked No. 2 Choate Rosemary Hall in a WNE Tournament Championship Bracket semifinal.
Sherry had transferred to Suffield Academy from Fairfield Warde over the summer.
She aided her own cause with a solo home run.
Hopkins 5, Kent School 4
Hana Beauregard’s single scored the game-winning run from second base with one out in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Hilltoppers a thrilling walk-off win over Kent School.
Beauregard also got the win on the mound, striking out five and walking one while scattering nine hits.
St. Luke’s 5, Cheshire Academy 2
After falling behind by two runs, St. Luke’s scored twice in the third and thrice in the fourth to the take the win.
Lucy Millones had a double and a single and two RBIs for the Storm while Zoe Malkoun drove in two with a double.
Caroline D’Onofrio went the distance, striking out just one while walking three, but she only gave up two earned runs while scattering eight hits.
