And then there was one.
The Seymour Wildcats knocked New Milford from the unbeaten ranks on Wednesday afternoon, beating the Green Wave by a 3-2 score and leaving Cheshire as the only team to go undefeated in the regular season this year.
Here’s a look at a few of Wednesday’s big games, complete with a daily scoreboard:
Seymour 3, New Milford 2
Mia Cunningham reached on an error with two outs in the bottom of the sixth scoring, scoring Meghan O’Hayre, who led off the inning with a double, as Seymour knocked New Milford from the unbeaten ranks.
O’Hayre had two of Seymour’s four hits off New Milford’s Lydia Rocky (8 Ks, 3 walks) while Julianna Raucci had a two-run home run to tie the game in the third inning. Leah Parkosewich also had a hit. Cassidy Marcinczyk fired a four-hitter, giving up the two runs while striking out 7 and walking just 2.
For New Milford, Cienna McNamara was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI coming on a solo home run. Carly Coloneri added a single for the Green Wave.
Masuk 7, Foran 3
The Panthers broke open a tie game by scoring four runs in the top of the fifth and posting a non-league win over Foran in Milford.
Ciena Perpetuo had two hits, including a triple, and drove in two; Peyton Webb had a triple and a single and scored twice; and Grace Ely had a two-run home run and scored two runs to pace the Masuk offense. Winning pitcher Mary Saunders (3 strikeouts, 0 walks) added two singles and an RBI.
For Foran, Norah Bove and Abby Corris both had a double and a single. Emily Speringo and Grace Weber had the RBIs.
Danbury 6, New Canaan 5
A new face made her Danbury debut as the Hatters clinched the No. 2 seed in the FCIAC with a win over New Canaan.
Freshman pitcher Ava Tong struck out seven as she scattered five hits in her varsity debut after coming back from a season-long injury. Offensively, the Hatters were paced by Sophie O’Connell, who had two hits while Abby O’Dell had a triple and an RBI. T’Aira Walters, Avianna Hul, Jackie Marks and Payton Linsley all had RBIs, as well.
For New Canaan, Lisa Mallozzi tripled while Lauren Fico (8Ks, 5 walks, four-hits) and Maya Aquino each had doubles.
Brookfield 1, NFA 0
Host Brookfield walked it off in the bottom of the seventh when Emma Ferguson singled home Mary Aurrichio with nobody out to give the Bobcats the win.
Aurrichio had opened the inning with a single to center an moved to second on a ground ball.
Lila Conrad had Brookfield’s other hit off of NFA pitcher Dakota Bourdon, who fanned five and walked two while giving up the unearned run.
Sydney Miller pitched a one-hit shutout, striking out 12 and walking two.
Sophie Minor had NFA’s lone hit, a double.
