Despite the gray and foul weather, all four of Saturday’s Naugatuck Valley League quarterfinals were completed.

When all was said and done it was the top four seeds advancing to next week’s semifinals.

Top-seeded St. Paul Catholic defeated No. 8 Ansonia 9-3; No 2 Woodland Regional shut out No 7 Watertown 9-0; No. 3 Seymour downed No. 6 Wolcott 14-2, and No. 4 Holy Cross bested No. 5 Torrington 5-1.

Here’s a look at each of the games:

St. Paul Catholic 9, Ansonia 3

Breyona Demora struck out 15 batters in six innings, not allowing an earned run and helping the Falcons notch the win.

St. Paul pounded out 10 hits in the game. Julia Kozlak was 2-for-2 with two walks, two RBIs, a double and a run scored; Peighton Giambra was 2-for-2 with two walks and a run scored; and Sydney Yanavich went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the way.

Laila McCulloch had a double and also drove in three runs while Isabella McCulloch also had a double. Liliana McCulloch scored three times from the lead-off spot, as well.

For Ansonia, Kayla Picheco had her team’s lone hit.

Woodland Regional 9, Watertown 0

Ayla DeCrescenzo was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to lead Woodland Regional to the win over Watertown.

Caitlyn Braun scattered five hits in earning the shutout win in the circle. She struck out seven and walked one.

She aided her own cause at the plate by going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. She alsos had a double and a triple.

Emma DeGeorge added a single, a double and a run scored; Gabriella Capobianco had a single, a double and three runs scored along with an RBI, as well.

For Watertown, Alexa Conner, Julia Campbell, Grace Simmons, Chloe Donhert and Madelyn Aubertin all had a single each.

Seymour 14, Wolcott 2

A 7-run second inning set the stage for a big win by Seymour.

The Wildcats recorded 10 hits in four innings, led by Julianna Raucci who was 2-for-3 with two runs, a grand slam and six RBIs. Mia Cunningham added a single, a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Rachel DeAngelis (1 RBI) and Meghan O’Hayre (2 runs) had two singles each, as well.

Cassidy Marcinczyk pitched all five innings in the circle, giving up just three hits and one earned run. She struck out eight and walked two.

For Wolcott, Ava Shea and Lilly Spina both doubled while Avery Malenfant had an RBI single.

Holy Cross 5, Torrington 1

The Crusaders got off to a strong start as Amelia Mowad blasted a three-run home run, giving Holy Cross a lead just 11 pitches into the game.

Gabriella Rosado had singled to open the game and Darby O’Connell walked on four pitches before Mowad gave Holy Cross the lead.

Rosado was 3-for-3 on the day, adding a double and a triple while scoring twice. She also had an RBI. Angela Shivas added a double.

In the circle, Gina Barry was outstanding. She fired a complete game, giving up seven hits. She struck out three and walked one. The run she surrendered was unearned.

For Torrington, Sophia Pergola was 3-for-4 with two doubles while Gracie Springs singled, doubled and scored a run. As pitcher, Pergola struck out 10 and walked two.

THE SEMIFINALS

On Tuesday, St. Paul Catholic will play Holy Cross while Seymour will face Woodland Regional.

The games will be played at Derby High School.
