WILKES-BARRE, Penn.—Bristol’s Junior League Softball All-Stars saw their East Region tournament come to an end after posting a 1-2 record.
The team opened with a loss to Delaware, bouncing back with a convincing victory over the host team, and falling to Massachusetts in an elimination game on Sunday morning.
Bristol dropped its tournament opener, 10-7, to Central Western Little League of Delaware despite collecting six hits and drawing six walks.
Kamdyn Treannie led the offense by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Victoria Zaldivar drove in a run with a hit. Layla Annino, Makenzie Wentland, Madisyn Daigle and Zoey Comandini also recorded hits. Ellie Hudson and Kylie Nass each crossed the plate twice.
Tilly Kelly worked the first five innings in the circle before Ava Theriault and Comandini combined to finish the game.
Facing elimination, Bristol responded with one of its strongest offensive performances of the summer, pounding out 14 hits in a 13-3 victory over host Greater Wyoming Area.
Nearly every player in the lineup contributed as Ellie Hudson (2-for-4, two RBIs), Makenzie Wentland (2-for-2, two RBIs), Dreah Lajoie (2-for-2), Kylie Nass (2-for-3, RBI), Victoria Zaldivar (1-for-3, RBI), Alaina Lefurgey (RBI) and Ava Theriault (RBI) fueled the attack.
Kelly earned the win in relief, allowing just one hit over 3 2/3 innings while striking out four after Comandini started the game.
Bristol’s tournament ended with an 11-1 setback against Massachusetts.
The Connecticut champions collected six hits in the loss, with Hudson, Nass, Treannie, Wentland, Lajoie and Kelly each recording one. Zaldivar drove in Bristol’s lone run.
Overall, Bristol showed balance throughout the tournament. The club scored 21 runs over its three games while receiving offensive contributions throughout the lineup. Hudson reached base consistently in all three contests, Treannie produced multiple-hit games in the opener and finale, and Wentland, Nass and Zaldivar each played key offensive roles during the tournament.
Although the East Region run came to an end, Bristol finished its postseason as Connecticut’s Junior League state champion and added another successful chapter to the city’s long tradition of Little League softball.
